Cheesy Garlic Dinner Rolls
I am the queen of procrastination. Don’t get me wrong, I will meet the deadline if I have stuff to do and it will be done well. But I love over thinking everything and worrying about it rather than just getting on with it. I think I just get a little overwhelmed so it’s my way of dealing with it. Some things never change even when you get older…Lol! I didn’t procrastinate over making these dinner rolls, trust me. I was up at the crack of dawn, baking them already. There’s something about early morning bread making. It seems to work well when I make any sort of bread first thing in the morning. Maybe it’s because it needs time to rise and I don’t get frustrated waiting. You’ve got to try these Cheesy Garlic Dinner Rolls, even if you have to wake up at the crack of dawn. They are everything you would want in a dinner roll. It’s soft, fluffy, cheesy and garlicky…what more can you ask for. My 20-year-old chef even approved after the first bite. And no I don’t take any tips from him. I don’t do gourmet, only good wholesome food the old-fashioned way…haha!
What Ingredients do you need
You can use cake wheat flour, all purpose flour or bread flour. Today I did use some bread flour. However, in the past I have used cake wheat flour too and it worked just fine. Me and easy work well together so for all my breads I used instant dry yeast, the purple anchor yeast. It works perfectly everytime. Always ensure your yeast is fresh and not close to expiration date. I always buy yeast as I need so I can be certain it’s fresh. If you are using active yeast you will need to proof it first. To proof the yeast you will need some lukewarm water and sugar. You let it sit for 10 minutes and it should start foaming. It’s how you know the yeast is fresh. Add some salt, sugar, butter and milk and your dough is good to go. For the garlic butter, you will need butter, parsley and thyme. Store bought garlic butter is good too. I also use cheddar or mozarella cheese, whatever I have at hand.
Making the dough
So my stand mixer has been broken for a while and I really haven’t had time to take it in for repairs. It’s another reason I haven’t made much bread For this I used my hands but if you have a stand mixer it will save you some muscle power. The dough is also sticky so a stand mixer helps. When using a stand mixer I also just add in the whole cup of milk. When kneading by hands I added slightly less because it becomes far too sticky to handle. The dough is very sticky at first so you may be tempted to add flour when kneading. But please don’t. You can dust the surface with a little flour but not too much. Oil your hands and knead, it will be so much easier. After about 5 minutes it will start to become less sticky. After 10 minutes of kneading you will have a soft, smooth dough. If you are using a mixer it will take about 6 minutes. The dough has to rest for 1 hour and again for 30 minutes. There’s something so comforting about making bread so the wait is worth it.
