We always have bananas in our home and sometimes they don’t get eaten soon enough. Today it came in good use for this Chocolate Banana Bread.
Chocolate Banana Bread
The one thing I love about Banana Bread is how easy it is to make. There really is no fuss about making one. I used a slightly different technique for this Chocolate Banana Bread today. Usually I’m the kind that loves dumping everything in one bowl. I wasn’t so lazy today so I put a little more effort into my baking…haha! With all the chaos in the world right now trust me you are going to need this Chocolate Banana Bread. Something to sweeten up your life. I had a piece as soon as it was baked with a smear of butter. Should Banana Bread be Super Moist Everyone that ever requests any sort of bread or cake recipe always wants it soft and moist. Gosh, am I the only one crazy. It is called “bread” so why does it have to be super moist! Let’s just say this is not super moist but moist enough for a Banana Bread. At least that’s how I see it. I love my banana bread a little less moist that most prefer. In my mind “bread” is not supposed to be super moist. In any event I love mine with a spread of butter and a cup of tea so this texture is just right for me. Besides if I wanted super soft and moist I would then bake a banana cake. Agree? Maybe not, I know I am unique…Lol! You also don’t want your Banana Bread to be too light and crumbly. I think that could be a disaster if you’re trying to slice it. In saying all of that I think you are going to like it just the way it is. If my “Mr Fussy” hubby loved it then it can’t be that bad. He who doesn’t usually eat banana bread.
What Ingredients do you need Apart from the usual butter, sugar, eggs, bicarbonate of soda, flour, vanilla essence, bananas, cocoa and chocolate chips I also added some vegetable oil to this recipe. I think the oil did make it a little tender as opposed to not having the oil. I am a butter addict so I just had to add butter to my recipe. However, you are welcome to leave out the butter and add extra oil. It works just as well. Also ensure your bananas are super ripe. The blacker the better. I know they look yucky but works best. As bananas get ripe the starch turns to sugar and of course, become sweeter. Of late I don’t see much chocolate chips in the stores. I don’t know why. Sometimes I manage to find some but they are not great. For me the best one I’ve used so far is the Staffords Chocolate Chips. The chocolate chips worked just fine, sprinkled on top. Here too, if you wish you can add more chocolate chips in the batter itself for extra decadence. You can also mix the chocolate chips into the batter with the cocoa if you wish. Baking the Chocolate Banana Bread The baking time for Banana Bread is a little longer. It can take anything between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your oven. Mine took 45 minutes. You can test it after 45 minutes with a toothpick. If it comes out clean then you know it’s cooked all the way through. As you can see I tried to get a little fancy so I didn’t just mix the cocoa into all of the batter. I divided the batter and separated them in the pan as well. Did exactly turn out all swirly but it’s pretty enough. But you can always just mix it all together.
If you’re not crazy about the chocolate, although I don’t know anyone who’s not, you can try this plain old Banana Bread. For those that are totally hooked on anything banana here’s more recipes to try: Banana Chocolate Nut Muffins Egg-free Banana Coconut Muffins If you loved this, please share!
