Why make lemonade syrup at home

Homemade lemonade syrup is super easy to make at home. But there are a few specific reasons we love to make our own and use it to make several pitchers of lemonade:

When you make it at home, you can control the sugar you put into it. There are no preservatives like mixes or lemonade you can get at the store. It helps ensure the sugar absorbs into the lemonade and does not settle at the bottom

Why you’ll love this recipe

If you have ever tried to make lemonade at home by combining lemon juice, sugar, and water, you may have had some disappointing results. The sugar often does not dissolve well in cold water and it settles at the bottom of the container. Our lemonade recipe uses a simple syrup so the sugar will dissolve in the lemonade and provide the right sweetness. And it makes the perfect base recipe to add additional lemonade flavors easily. Another reason you’ll love this recipe is that store bought lemonade mixes are artificially flavored and don’t taste nearly as good as fresh, homemade lemonade. Once you make this lemonade, you’ll never want to use store mixes again! You’ll also love just how fast and convenient this is. You can make this concentrate once and store for up to a year for easy lemonade all year long. It also only needs three ingredients, which means you really don’t need much to get started. Finally, if you like making mocktails or cocktails, this lemonade concentrate is perfect for you! You can easily add it to your favorite boozy or non-boozy drink for just the right flavor.

How to make homemade lemonade concentrate or syrup in 4 easy steps

We recommend using 1 part concentrate, 3 parts water, and 1 part ice.

Tips to make the best lemonade syrup

When you want fresh lemonade at home, here’s what you need to do:

Use only freshly squeezed lemon juice for best results. Don’t overcook the concentrate! One minute and a quick release is all it needs! Store the concentrate in the freezer or fridge to serve it at a later time.

How long can I keep homemade lemonade?

You can store the concentrate in an airtight container for up to 1 year in the fridge.  Once you mix the concentrate with water, you can store it for about 1 week, assuming it lasts that long, in the fridge.

How to juice lemons to get more juice

There are three methods we recommend to get the most juice out of your lemons. You can use one or all of them together:

Microwave them for 30 seconds before juicing Press and roll the lemons on a countertop or hard surface before cutting them Use a handheld juicer - this also helps prevent seeds from getting into the juice

How long will frozen lemon juice keep?

If you pour the concentrate into a freezer safe container, it will maintain its best quality for about 3 to 4 months. But you can safely use it for up to a year or longer as long as it maintains its constant frozen temperature.

Can you freeze leftover lemonade?

Yes you can easily freeze leftover lemonade. You can add it to a freezer safe container and then thaw when you are ready to use. Or, for a fun treat, you can pour it into a popsicle mold and add a popsicle stick to it. Once you freeze it, you can serve lemonade popsicles to your kids and family.
