What is no yeast pizza dough?

No yeast pizza dough is a simple way to make delicious homemade dough at home. You only need two ingredients and about 30 minutes if you are  using an Instant Pot with the yogurt function.  This recipe is very similar to our naan recipe and roti recipe. You can also find other great bread recipes here.

What do I need for this recipe?

You only need two ingredients to make this self-rising pizza dough.

Greek yogurt - you can use regular yogurt, just reduce the amount you use Self-rising flour - you can make your own (see below for instructions) or use a gluten free variety

How to make

Here’s how to make this easy pizza dough. Start by mixing the self-rising dough and yogurt in a large stand mixer with a hook attachment. You could do this by hand with a large bowl and wooden spoon, but the mixer saves some time and energy.

Once the dough starts to come together, take it out of the mixer and place on a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough by folding it over and pressing down on it for 2 minutes.  When you are done kneading the dough, spray down the inside of your Instant Pot’s inner pot with a non-stick spray or coat it with your favorite oil. Place the dough in the inner pot, close the lid, and set the yogurt function for 30 minutes.

Why use the Instant Pot to let dough rise?

The Instant Pot’s yogurt function is one of the best ways to let dough rise. It creates the perfect, even temperature for doughs to rise by keeping the temperature constant, which makes a great environment for dough rising with either baking soda or yeast. It is a great option on cool or cold days where a draft may cause the dough to not rise as well.

Don’t have an Instant Pot or yogurt button on your pressure cooker?

No worries. We got you covered. You can cover the dough with a damp cloth or damp paper towel and keep it in a warm place for 1 hour.

Pro tips and tricks

Use the Instant Pot’s yogurt function to make rising super easy Don’t skip kneading the dough, this helps to activate the gluten to make a better texture for the dough If using non-Greek yogurt, use slightly less and add it slowly at about a ½ cup at  a time If making this gluten free, you may need to adjust the amount of yogurt you need, this recipe was made using regular wheat flour.

Is this gluten free?

No. You can try to make this gluten free. Self-rising gluten free flours are available for sale, so if you need a gluten free flour, you can find it online if needed. This recipe was made and tested using wheat flour, so you may need to make some adjustments if you use a gluten free flour.

Is this vegan?

No, the recipe uses Greek yogurt. You could try a dairy-free yogurt option. You may need to make slight adjustments to how much you use. This recipe was made and tested with Greek and dairy yogurts, so you may need to make minor changes if you use a non-dairy yogurt.

How to cook no yeast pizza dough

Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees F. Next, divide the dough in half. Roll each half of the pizza dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Once you have a roughly round or square shape, carefully transfer the dough to a pizza pan or sheet pan. Add your choice of toppings Bake the pizza for 15 to 18 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Remove the pizza from the oven. Cut into 8 slices

How can I make self rising flour at home?

If you can’t find self-rising flour, you can make your own self-rising dough at home with 1 cup all-purpose flour,  1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. In a large bowl, whisk the ingredients together and then add the Greek yogurt to make the dough.

Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt?

Yes. You won’t need as much regular yogurt. We suggest adding the yogurt a ½ cup at a time  to the flour to make sure the dough comes out perfect.

How to store the dough

Yes, you can store the dough after kneading it for about 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator. Place the dough in an airtight container and allow it to come back up to room temperature before allowing it to rise in the Instant Pot. You could also make the dough and bake the pizza crust. Then you can store the cooked pizza crust for 2 to 3 days at room temperature. Before storing, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap to make sure it is in an airtight pocket.  You can also freeze the uncooked dough. To do this, place the dough in a freezer safe bag or container and squeeze as much air as possible out. Allow it to thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then warm it to room temperature on the counter. Then place in the Instant Pot and allow it to rise as described.

Serving suggestions

Once you make the dough, one of the best - and most obvious - things you can make is pizza.  Scoop on your favorite pizza sauce onto the pre-cooked crust. Next, sprinkle the top with as much mozzarella cheese as you want. You can then add toppings like mushrooms, onions, green peppers, pineapple, olives, garlic, or any other veggie your family loves. Bake for another few minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. You could also make the dough into a Stromboli by rolling it out like you would a pizza. Then add sauce, cheese, and any toppings you would normally add into the middle of the dough. Make sure to leave some room around the toppings.  Once you place all the toppings you want inside, fold the dough and push the edges together to form a sealed pocket. Cook the dough at 400 degrees for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the dough is a golden brown. You could also make the dough into garlic knots. To do this, roll the dough into a long rope. Cut the dough rope into about 4 inch sections. Tie the dough sections into a single knot and place on a prepared baking sheet. Brush on some oil or melted butter and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Top the cooked knots with fresh garlic, parsley, and Parmesan cheese.
