Field Berry Farm
My little one was on his school break and with moving house we couldn’t do much with him in terms of entertainment. However, we felt really guilty last weekend so we took him to the Field Berry Farm, if you live in Johannesburg and haven’t visited them yet please do. It is a beautiful little farm, away from the craziness of the city and my ten year old loved every minute. Picking berries was so much fun and so therapeutic too. it’s a place where you can easily spend hours blissfully picking berries without a care in the world. Isn’t it great to get away from “reality” sometimes!! My hubby who was grumpy when we left home even calmed down and was all happy again after he picked some berries…..hahaha! We are definitely visiting the farm again soon.
Easy Raspberry Jam
I rarely buy jam because my family are not crazy about store bought jam. When I do buy jam it’s usually if I need to use some in my baking. However this Easy Raspberry Jam went down well with my fussy family on Crumpets and scones and hubby dear thought it was amazing. Like all my other recipes I have reduced the sugar to make this jam too. I loved the little tanginess of the berries with just the right amount of sugar. Jams usually require loads of sugar to get the right consistency, however this recipe worked just fine with the reduced sugar, the raspberries had enough pectin (a substance that gives jams its gelatinous texture) to reach the desired consistency. If you do try this recipe you can add more sugar according to your taste, should you wish. You can also put the warm raspberries through a sieve, before adding the sugar, it you want to remove the seeds. If your jam is too runny you can cook it for longer. You will need a sterilised jar to store the jam, I washed my jar in hot, soapy water and popped it into the microwave for 60 seconds on high. If you loved this, please share!
