Flake Biscuits
I am not sure who the original creator of this recipe is, whoever it is, thanks for the inspiration. My hubby has a sweet tooth and anything that has chocolate is always a winner for him. When he saw these his eyes lit up and he was having tea every evening just so he can eat a few. Maybe I am weird but I am not crazy about chocolates. I have a couple of my favourites and I stick to those. Flake is on my list of favourites and I loved these biscuits. However, for me it’s everything in moderation. I wish I could say the same for my sweet loving husband. I guess that’s why we’re married because opposites attract…haha! Of late, I have been baking a lot. It’s a phase I go through. There are times I am super excited about baking and I bake almost everyday. There’s times when weeks go by and I don’t want to even think about baking. I see a lot of bloggers that say they have a schedule and they plan what they’re going to work on. I am the complete opposite, spontaneous is what I am.
If I wake up in the morning and I have a recipe in my head I will go straight to the kitchen and start baking. Well, if it doesn’t work out then I try again that same afternoon. Whilst I am in the mood I feel like I have to keep going or I will lose “momentum”. So if you see a whole lot of baked goods on my home page you know why. For these Flake Biscuits I used a similar recipe to my Date Roll Biscuit because I loved that texture and I felt it will work great for this recipe too. I am not a great decorator. However, I do love pretty and neat looking biscuits or cookies. It’s one of the reasons why I stick to simple. If I know I can fully handle the skill level of certain baked goods then I will attempt it. There’s some things I want to try but the complexity of it puts me off. It’s why some recipes never make it to my blog. Maybe one day I will surprise you and make more extravagant bakes. I know I can if I really set my mind to it.
I hope I can also create a cookbook with simple but decadent bakes. Because I know what a struggle baking can be for some of us. Getting a publisher to publish my book will be a challenge I guess. I have worked on a book for a long time and I think I have done pretty well on my blog. So I assumed it would be easy to find a publisher but that’s proving to be quite a challenge. However, I am not giving up that easily. If all else fails I will think about self-publishing. That will be a task, considering the first publisher I sent my stuff to told me not to waste my time capturing my own images as they won’t use them. Now I regret listening to her. I should have continued with my photos and just maybe I would have been halfway there. My ardent followers would know I am not a quitter so someday I will strike this dream off my bucket list. Everything in life happens when it’s meant to happen. On that note let’s get to my flake biscuits
Ingredients Required
For these flake biscuits you will need butter, sugar, cake wheat flour, cornflour, cocoa, vanilla, flake chocolate and some normal chocolate for sticking the flake
How to make these biscuits
You cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add cocoa, cornflour and the cake wheat flour. You then roll out the doing and cut them into a square shape. Cut them into little finger shapes. To prevent them from spreading I pop them back into the fridge for about 15 minutes. It’s then baked, cooled and decorated. Unfortunately flake doesn’t melt as well as other chocolates. You therefore will need some plain chocolate for decorating. I used some Cadbury dairy milk chocolate and it worked fine. I got about 52 little biscuits from this small quantity of dough.
