As a kid, I grew up consuming a lot of different types of yogurt bowl with fruits and vegetables in the form of raita’s. An ancient form of yogurt bowls from India. Not only do we add fruits but veggies like, carrots, cucumbers, onions, boiled potatoes and even spiced Okra. So I often consumed fruit yogurt bowls for breakfast or even as a side with meals. However, vegetable yogurt bowls are typically consumed as a side with meals. That is where I get my love for yogurt.
Ever tried straining greek yogurt? Well, I love how thick and creamy it gets with all that protein. Straining greek yogurt definitely reduces the amount of carbs in the yogurt. I am not talking about the homemade yogurt here but the store bought greek yogurt. The primary sugar carbohydrate found in whey is lactose, so the more whey you remove, the more carbs and water you reduce. You will still get some amount of carbs for sure, but you have minimized it to quiet an extent. Instead, you will be left with protein-rich yogurt. In the case of this fruity breakfast yogurt bowl, I knew I was getting my carbs and sugar from the fruits, so I didn’t want any extra crabs from the whey. I also grew up eating a lot of fruits, so naturally, I enjoy all kinds of fruits. So a fruit yogurt bowl is perfect for a quick breakfast. I like to use fruits as toppings or even blend them in the yogurt to add some flavor. Fruits are a great way to sweeten the yogurt and get your dose of vitamins and antioxidants. Although you can make your yogurt bowl fancier and add, nuts and seeds and coconut and grains like this one, this yogurt bowl is pretty basic. During the festive season of Navratri, a lot of people fast and have diet restrictions. For some fun with texture, I froze my yogurt after blending it with strawberries. Just freeze it enough until it get’s a little like ice cream. Then I topped it with some fresh fruits. You can use whatever fruits you have readily available or that are in season. I am getting ready for fall fruits, but sad that this was probably my last time to relish Mangoes this season.
