Perfect Instant Pot Spaghetti without Clumps
Even though spaghetti is so easy to make in the Instant Pot, many people are baffled by Instant Pot spaghetti. They find that spaghetti gets clumpy or sticks together when they make it in the Instant Pot. My method for making Instant Pot spaghetti noodles results in perfectly separated spaghetti noodles each time without triggering the burn notice on your Pot. The tricks to achieving clump free Instant Pot spaghetti each time without getting the burn warning? A few tricks:
Why cook spaghetti in the Instant Pot?
Unlike on the stove top, you only need one pot when you make spaghetti noodles in the Instant Pot. You add the spaghetti, seasonings, sauce and water all into the inner pot, set the pressure, and walk away. You don’t need to touch it again until it’s done cooking. This Instant Pot spaghetti recipe is the perfect way to try Instant Pot cooking if you are an Instant Pot beginner. If you’re intimidated by the idea of making anything in your Instant Pot, don’t be! We break it all down for you in our beginner’s guide to Instant Pot cooking called Is the Instant Pot Worth It?
Step by Step Recipe on how to make spaghetti noodles in the Instant Pot
Making spaghetti in the Instant Pot is quick and easy. To start, use the saute function to heat up the olive oil. Once the olive oil is hot, add in the onions, garlic, mix Italian herb and basil. Cook it for about 2 to 3 minutes or until they become fragrant.
Once its cooked, break the spaghetti noodles in half. Layer the noodle half in a criss cross pattern to help prevent the pasta from sticking together. At this point, DO NOT STIR the pasta. This is very important. If you stir the pasta after you add, you risk burning the pasta or having the pasta stick together. Next, pour the marinara sauce over top of the noodles and try to cover them as much as possible. Finally, add the water.
Place the lid on the Instant Pot. Make sure the sealing valve is set to “sealing.” Set the pot to pressure cook on manual for 5 minutes on high pressure. When the timer goes off, allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes and then quick release the remaining pressure.
Carefully remove the lid to the Instant Pot. Stir the spaghetti with tongs. Stirring the spaghetti will help absorb some of the extra moisture in the pot. Serve the spaghetti while it is warm with your favorite topping such as cheese or roasted veggies.

Are spaghetti noodles vegan?
Yes! Spaghetti noodles are vegan if you follow my recipe and do not add Parmesan cheese on top. If you add cheese, it is no longer vegan, but it will still be vegetarian.
What kind of noodles should I use?
I use San Giorgio spaghetti because I find they have the best overall taste and texture. Use regular noodles in this recipe as I find whole wheat spaghetti often create a tougher texture and thicker sauce consistency. I also use regular size spaghetti noodles. You can vary the noodles size, but I would stick with a long noodle, not penne or rotini. Be aware if you choose a different thickness of noodles you will have to adjust the cook time. For example, angel hair pasta will only need to pressure cook for 2-3 minutes instead of 5. Thicker fettuccine noodles should cook for 6-7 minutes instead.
What sauce should I use for the recipe?
For best flavor, use your own, homemade sauce like my Instant Pot Marinara Sauce with Fresh Tomatoes. There are tons of sauces you can choose from at your local grocery store. Sauces that include extra veggies or different spices can add delicious flavor. If I do not have my homemade marinara sauce, I preferred sauce Raos homemade Marinara sauce.
What veggies can I add to my spaghetti noodles?
There are lots of great vegetable options to go on top of your spaghetti. Some good roasted options include:
bell peppers mushrooms roasted onions zucchini broccoli eggplant
To add them, you can roast them in your oven with a sprinkling of olive oil, salt, pepper, and Italian seasonings. You could also boil or saute additional vegetables to add on top.
Pro tips and tricks
When making spaghetti in the Instant Pot, try these tips and tricks for success:
Break the noodle in half and criss cross them to help avoid them sticking together If you find the noodles still stick, give your Pot a quick spray with cooking spray to help prevent the pasta from sticking to the pot Do not stir the noodles, water, and sauce until after it cooks fully Use a sauce that does not contain cheese or cream to keep it vegan and preventing sticking
