Honestly I didn’t know about Appe until early 2015, until the Appe craze picked up on several food groups that I am a part of. It’s the Appe that brought Soniya and me together. While some of you may already know what Appe are, for those of you who don’t know or have never heard about them, think of it as breakfast pancake puffs made with fermented rice batter. These No Fry Sooji Appe / Savory Semolina Pancake Puffs are made in an Appe pan which is very similar to an aebleskiver pan. These are savory bite size breakfast treats.[adinserter block=“2”]
Although traditionally Appe are made with fermented rice batter, I tend to make instant No Fry Sooji Appe / Savory Semolina Pancake Puffs more often. I guess because the it’s quick and easy with minimal time and effort. It’s literally tossing in a few ingredients together and cooking the batter, infact I use our popular 1 batter 7 dishes, batter for this recipe. I often make these for breakfast or a warm evening snack when it’s cold outside or even use them as a party appetizer. Little A loves them as they are bite size and not messy at all and when served they are not at all overwhelming. These are crisp on the outside and soft inside.[adinserter block=“2”] Appe make great finger food at parties and can be served in style. Recently I served them as Appe Shots. These taste delicious when served with green cilantro chutney. A lot of folks like some coconut chutney to go along with it.
