It’s one of their favorites and no matter how many times I make them,  it’s never enough. If your family is anything like mine I suggest you double the recipe.

Sweetcorn and Cheese Samoosas

What is a Samoosa

For those that don’t know what a Samoosa is. It is a thin layer of pastry filled with any filling of your choice.  It is deep-fried so not something you should eat regularly. But it is so divine that it’s really hard to resist. The most famous ones here in South Africa are the Sweetcorn and Cheese Samoosas, Minced Lamb, Chicken and Potato. They are all equally delicious. However, of late there are a whole lot of different fillings, so you are spoilt for choice. I am not always in the mood to make my pastry from scratch so a store bought one will do. One of the reasons love making these Sweetcorn and Cheese Samoosas,  is the fact that it is one of the easier ones to make. If you want to make it even more easy you can buy some grated cheese too…Lol! No I didn’t use that, I grated my own cheese.

Ingredients Required

You will require, samoosa pur or pastry, vegetable oil, cumin seeds, onion, chillies, frozen or fresh sweetcorn, cheddar and mozarella cheese, coriander, mint, paprika, piri piri seasoning, salt and pepper. I absolutely love using fresh herbs in my samoosas. I used them in all my samoosas and if you really don’t have any you can omit it. However, in my books it’s an absolute must. I have seen recipes where no herbs is required. A paste is required to seal the samoosas, once filled. For that you will need some flour and water.

Not as difficult as it seems

I think it’s a pretty easy recipe so I hope you do too. I have also made a little video just so you can see just how easy it is. There are people out there that are more visual. I myself like seeing how things are made rather that follow instructions. So I thought my little videos can help those that love to see how everything comes together. If you’re a novice in the kitchen even better to watch a video.

Folding samoosas are a little tedious. So I sometimes take my tray to my tv room with all my “equipment” and just fold away while watching my favourite series. It’s one way to get the job done…haha! I love using loads of fresh herbs in my samoosas, no matter what flavour I make. It takes your samoosas to a whole new dimension. Try it and you will thank me for it. I hope you enjoy this as much as my family does. Happy Cooking!   More Indian Snacks to try: Yellow Split Pea Vada Spicy Chilli Bites Aloo Pakora If you loved this, please share!
